Our Next City – Rome
Rome – Unbelievable history, unbelievable food and a truly unbelievable city. Amazing.
After visiting Paris in our last blog post we moved on to a city I’ve always wanted to visit since I was a child: Rome. I think the attraction has always been due to the locations you see in films, as well as learning about the Ancient Romans in school, but whatever it is, it’s somehow been in my heart for many years. The best thing? It didn’t disappoint.
One of the most famous locations across the entire world – the Colllosseum was truly inspiring. Standing there you can really imagine the atmosphere that must have existed thousands of years ago as gladiators entered the arena.
The Pantheon which was originally a temple for all pagan gods, the temple was converted into a church in 609. The Pantheon now contains the tombs of the famous artist Raphael and of several Italian Kings.
Sometimes considered a place you’d only visit if you’re a Catholic, I must also recommend that anyone going to Rome, whatever their religion, take a trip to Vatican city. If you can get yourself booked in on a tour, then a look around the Vatican Museums is amazing. Once again, the history that’s on show here is second to none and it would be a real shame to miss it.
